Abstract

Head StARt is an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) application designed to assist incoming freshmen going through college orientation. The current college orientation process is very heavy on information in the form of stacks of paper. This can lead to students feeling overwhelmed and missing key information. Paired with a brochure or document of choice, Head StARt allows you to use your phone to scan the document and bring up interactive AR experiences. Augmented reality has been proven to increase content understanding, student motivation, and long term memory retention (Radu, Iulian. (2014). Our application also features an easy to read map, with pictures and models of the buildings. This provides students with a simple to use, interactive tool to help navigate campus. Head StARt can take any brochure or pamphlet to the next level by engaging the audience in an exciting way and helping new students better retain important information.
