Abstract

This study is early work for evaluating Canvas as a leading learning management system (LMS) to address its usability issues for faculty members in higher education institutions from an experience-centered design perspective. More specifically, to identify the LMS usability problems, dialogues with instructors from two midwestern universities will be employed as an approach in the following data collection process. This preliminary study begins by providing the essential background of the increasing online teaching practices as a result of the impact of COVID-19 and the role of LMSs in online education. Following that, related work regarding online education and the usability of LMS is presented to help understand the research topic. Finally, the specific ways in which the experience-centered design theory contributes to this research are described in depth.
