Abstract

This initiative emerged in response to the significant energy consumption attributed to residential HVAC systems, which represent 46% of the average energy usage in U.S. homes, as reported by Direct Energy in 2023. Our team identified a prevalent inefficiency in the energy utilization within households. Consequently, our project's objective is to enhance the efficiency of domestic HVAC systems, thereby offering homeowners the opportunity to reduce their energy expenses. Utilizing Arduino technology coupled with custom-developed software, our solution, iFlow, empowers users to manage the operation of their home's duct dampers with precision. The iFlow application facilitates not only real-time control over the dampers' status but also the ability to program schedules, simplifying the process for users to maintain optimal conditions with minimal effort. This approach promises substantial energy savings and introduces a new level of convenience and customization to home environments, aligning with our commitment to sustainable living and technological innovation.
