Abstract

HobbyLink was a web application designed to address social isolation by helping individuals connect based on shared hobbies. Recognizing the negative effects of decreased face-to-face interactions and social media-driven loneliness, HobbyLink facilitated in-person meetups by allowing users to discover and interact with others nearby who share similar interests. Users could create profiles, add their favorite hobbies, and connect with people in their local area through RSVP-emphasized posts. The platform encouraged genuine relationships by offering real-time communication, identity verification, and safety features like reporting and blocking. By leveraging location services and tailored filters, HobbyLink bridged the gap between online connections and real-world friendships. The platform empowered users to not only engage with others virtually but to also meet in person, fostering deeper, meaningful relationships. HobbyLink aimed to alleviate the growing issue of loneliness, especially among adolescents and older adults, contributing to better social well-being.
