Abstract

SnackSwap is an application designed to assist users who struggled with eating options that fail to comply with their food allergies. The application was created with a built-in product scanner allowing users to ensure merchandised food items are also safe. Using their mobile devices to scan a product, users were able to use their mobile devices to determine whether or not a product contained their defined allergens. This displayed a page for the food and graphically showed warning icons for the allergens. In the case that triggering ingredients are detected, SnackSwap suggested similar, yet safe, food products. Through these features, SnackSwap enabled users to make informed dietary decisions, minimize the risk of allergic reactions, and improve overall food safety.
