The PupilTrack project aims to enhance field sobriety testing through the development of a mobile application that simplifies the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The app addresses common yet significant issues that can occur during the administration of tests at traffic stops, where procedures often lead to misleading results due to subjectivity. The methodology provides concise directions that comply with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and incorporates mobile device camera technology to track pupil movements. The camera records any exaggerated nystagmus of the pupils and displays the results of the HGN test. The integration of technology into sobriety testing is suggested to increase public safety and promote responsible drinking habits. By simplifying the HGN test through technological means, PupilTrack has the potential to significantly increase the accuracy of the HGN field sobriety test.
