Abstract

Did you know what job you wanted to pursue in high school? With few advocates at school or home for STEM careers, and opportunities to work with professionals limited, the benefits of pursuing these careers may be overlooked by high school students. The project team built a self-hosted application to encourage undecided high school and college students towards a path in cybersecurity. The Career Simulator Game utilizes FlutterFlow and Blackbox AI for development and integrates with Firebase to create an interactive site that introduces students to cyber careers accessible to 85% of the audience via a desktop or phone. By completing tasks related to these roles in a game play style, survey results indicated that the project led college students to being more interested in a cybersecurity major or career after interacting with the application, confirming this technology is effective for outreach.
