Abstract

Losing items within a college campus is often disorganized and difficult to track. The Campus Lost and Found web application was created for students and faculty at the University of Cincinnati to report and recover lost items. The project goal was to make the process easier and more organized than the existing system by including searchable item submissions with descriptions and photos, user verification, and separation of privileges. The application included basic user features as well as admin roles to manage and edit item reports. The system was built using common web technologies such as HTML and CSS for the interface, Node.js for server-side logic and SQL database interactions, deployed on an Apache web server, and hosted within an Azure tenant leveraging cloud-based infrastructure. Overall, testing methodologies including code reviews, user acceptance, integration, and penetration testing showed improvements in performance, usability, and security compared to the previous process.
