Abstract

The reach of movie streaming services continues to expand, with subscriber counts and annual film releases growing rapidly each year. While the number of options has made watching movies more accessible, it has also made choosing what to watch an increasingly long and frustrating process. FindMyFlick is a movie-recommendation solution built to help users search across multiple platforms and find films matched to their individual preferences with extensive include and exclude content filters, making it easier than ever for users to avoid uncomfortable or triggering topics. The project was developed by funneling movie data from external APIs into a centralized PostgreSQL database, then using React and ASP.NET to build the application's user interface and key features, including plot-based trigger tagging. The result is a platform that helps users discover suitable movies quickly, offers more control than traditional recommendation tools, and supports cross-platform searching that reflects their unique viewing needs.
