Abstract

Traveling sports fans frequently face challenges when navigating unfamiliar cities, as essential information regarding fan-friendly venues, safety, and community meetups is often fragmented across various social media platforms. To address this, the Away Game application provides a centralized, mobile-responsive platform designed to foster community, safety, and logistical ease for fans in "hostile" territory. Developed using a modern technical stack - including an Angular frontend, FastAPI backend, and PostgreSQL database - the application integrates data from the ESPN API and provides live fan interaction. Key features include user-generated event coordination, stadium-specific travel tips, and peer-contributed safety alerts. The project followed a 21-week development lifecycle, emphasizing secure authentication via Clerk and containerized deployment with Docker on Azure. By consolidating disparate resources into a single interface, Away Game reduces travel anxiety and enhances the emotional experience of sports fandom, ensuring that no fan feels isolated while supporting their team on the road.
