Abstract

Home users and small businesses often lack the technical expertise and financial resources required to conduct professional cybersecurity assessments, leaving their networks vulnerable to common threats. To address this gap, the team developed Osprey, a lightweight network analysis tool designed to help evaluate network security without the cost of a professional audit. Osprey, written in Python, automates network scanning using Nmap combined with a custom credential-checking utility in a single, user-friendly application. The tool identifies common vulnerabilities, including open ports, default passwords, outdated firmware and operating systems, and connected devices. After completing a scan, Osprey generates a clear, easy-to-understand report outlining detected risks and providing actionable guidance. Osprey empowers users with limited technical knowledge or budget to strengthen their network and reduce exposure to cyber threats.
