Abstract

Online activities are fraught with risks of unauthorized access and cyberattacks. Synapse is a security solution delivered through an intuitive browser extension to help protect individuals and companies from web-based threats such as phishing, malware distribution, compromised websites, and general online fraud. Synapse was developed as an ASP.NET application using C#, .NET 10, TypeScript, and a MariaDB SQL database managed via Entity Framework. The browser extension proactively blocks malicious websites by scanning visited URLs using an industry-standard threat-intelligence API. Upon detecting a malicious URL, the extension immediately blocks access and notifies the user. All logged events, configuration, and reporting data are stored in a secure database. A centralized management dashboard displays security events, providing visibility for an information security team. The system was created to protect the end user by prohibiting access to malicious websites and to provide information for taking further action based on dashboard data.
