Abstract

Many college students face challenges in maintaining healthy activity levels and connecting with peers due to barriers such as academic workload and time constraints. The UC Sports App is an application designed to increase student physical activity and social engagement at the University of Cincinnati. This project addressed these challenges by providing a platform that enabled students to create, discover, and join casual sport events in real time. The prototype was developed using Google AppSheet as a no-code frontend, supported by a relational SQL-based data structure and integrated data services. Google Maps APIs and JSON-based data handling were used to support geolocation and data exchange. Core functionality included event management, geolocation-based mapping, resource sharing, and recommendations. The completed system demonstrated the feasibility of a lightweight, student-centered application that reduced engagement friction, supported spontaneous activity, and strengthened campus community connectivity through technology-driven coordination. Future work includes expanding functionality and deployment.
