Abstract

As home networks grow increasingly complex due to the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, households face rising cybersecurity risks including unauthorized access, device vulnerabilities, and unsafe internet use. Most cybersecurity solutions are designed for enterprise environments and need technical expertise, leaving non-technical home users without accessible and effective protection. Scout OUT addressed this gap by providing a user-friendly, affordable home cybersecurity platform tailored specifically for families. Scout OUT combined a plug-and-play Raspberry Pi - based network sensor with a web application built using React and Node.js. This system offered real-time network traffic visibility, intrusion detection and prevention support, suspicious device alerts, centralized IoT device monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and parental controls. By simplifying network security through intuitive design, actionable alerts, and centralized monitoring, Scout OUT empowered households to manage, secure, and understand their home networks in an increasingly connected environment.
