Abstract

Every year, over 400 million items were lost, resulting in approximately $2.7 billion spent on replacements and an average of 2.5 days spent searching for misplaced belongings. Found.AI was a web-based lost and found management system comprised of multiple technologies that utilized Spring Boot, Java, Thymeleaf, MySQL, and artificial intelligence. The system was designed to simplify and modernize how users recovered items through events containing lost property. Users were able to upload photos and descriptions of their items, while an AI image- matching model using gpt-4o-mini automatically compared submissions to potential matches. The project included user authentication, item history tracking, and communication between users and administrative staff. Forget about what has been lost and focus on what can be found with Found.AI.
