A study done in 2022 on popularity of accessibility features in games found that as of the conduction of the research there were a recorded 3 billion individuals who played digital games, approximately one third of which experience disabilities when engaging with game play. While accessible features and inputs for play are numerous, developers often lack incentive, resources or knowledge to design their core game play loops with the intent to support these solutions. We will perform a review of popular games across three dominant gaming platforms: Playstation, Xbox and Steam (PC) and a systematic literature review to gather data on current accessibility offerings, research, development challenges and player testimony. This data will then be subject to a thematic analysis aiming to expose common issues available for improvement and innovation in neglected categories of accessibility.
